Tuesday’s softball game between Boerne Champion and Kerrville Tivy just got away from the Lady Chargers.
Champion was trailing 3-0 going into the fourth but the Lady Antlers caught fire and tallied 11 runs over its next three at bats and went on to win the game in six innings, 14-3.
The Lady Chargers slipped to 3-5 in district to close out the first round. Champion (8-7 overall) hosted Veterans Memorial Friday to kick off the second round of 26-5A action. They’ll visit Smithson Valley Tuesday.
Champion finished with 11 hits but only produced 3 runs against the Antlers, while Tivy tallied 14 runs on 14 hits.
The Chargers scored 2 runs in the fifth thanks to a home run by Brylyn Thornburgh, who brought in Torin Tucker after Tucker singled.
Champion’s other run came in the sixth after Anna Hurst scored on a McKenzie Wilson single, but it was 14-3 by that point and the Chargers didn’t produce any more runs after that, causing the mercy rule to kick in at the end of the inning.
Tucker finished with 3 singles and a run scored, Wilson added 2 singles, Mylie Parker hit 2 singles and Thornburgh finished with 2 RBI and a run scored. Hurst singled and scored, while Aidan Kavanagh and Teagan Rogers both singled as well.
Parker went 4 innings in the circle and yielded 6 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and fanned 1, while Hurst threw 2 innings, 8 hits, walked 2 and sat down a batter.
