Geneva softball squad challenges Holy Cross

Just two games into its softball season and the Geneva School of Boerne team has shown some bright spots, but the squad is still looking for its first win of the season.

The Eagles were at Holy Cross on Thursday and were crowned by the Knights, 13-2, in 4.5 innings.

Geneva (0-2) has a busy week and hosted Corpus Christi John Paul II on Tuesday, will welcome Lutheran on Wednesday and then visit CC JP II on Friday.

In last Thursday’s game, Holy Cross was up 7-0 after two innings after scoring 3 runs in the first and 4 in the second.

Geneva got on the board in the third with a pair of runs. Megan Egli singled and moved to second on a sac bunt by Hayes Harden. Ruby Svendsen reached on an error and then Egli and Svendsen came home on a double by Lila Fleming to make it 7-2.

The Knights fired back with 3 runs in the bottom half of the inning and it was 10-2. Holy Cross pushed in 3 more runs in the fourth to take a 13-2 lead and after Geneva didn’t score in the top of the fifth, the game ended.

The Eagles finished with 6 hits, including the 2-RBI double by Fleming, while Carolyn Lutz knocked out 2 hits and Carlyle Harden, Egli and Hayes Harden recorded one single. Svendsen and Egli both scored one run each.

Fleming went 4 innings in the circle and threw 104 pitches in the game.
