Geneva baseball tripped up by Holy Cross

The Geneva School of Boerne baseball team had a good start in last Friday’s district game with Holy Cross and scored 2 runs early but couldn’t carry the momentum beyond that first inning.

Geneva only managed one more run in its next four at bats and fell to Holy Cross, 13-3, in five innings.

The Eagles are 0-2 in district (8-7 overall) and hosted Corpus Christi John Paul II on Tuesday.

A walk, two singles and an error helped Geneva score 2 runs in the top of the first inning for the quick 2-0 advantage, but Holy Cross cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning and then pulled ahead with 6 runs in the second frame.

Both teams plated single runs in the third and it was 8-3 after three innings, but the Knights pushed in 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth to kick in the mercy rule.

Geneva finished with 4 hits that came from the bats of Chase Doran, Gray Bruner, Robert Jons and Eli Arnold. Doran scored twice and Cole Davis accounted for their other run, while Arnold drove in 2 runs.

Arnold, Doran and Davis all tossed in the game and Davis went the longest at 2.2 innings and struck out 2.
