The Comfort softball team played two district games recently and beat Brady in extra innings before getting buffaloed by Florence in three innings.
The Deer are 1-3 in district (12-13 overall) and visited Florence on Friday. They’ll start a series with Ingram next week.
Vs. Florence
Comfort hosted Tuesday’s game with the Buffs and only managed 2 hits and 2 runs in the 24-2 loss in three innings.
Ella Thiele and Moorea Davis both singled for the Deer, while Thiele and Mariah McCullough scored one run each.
Thiele and Paige Werner both pitched in the game and Thiele went two innings and struck out 3 batters, while Werner tossed an inning against the Buffs team, which scored 12, 4 and 8 runs in three innings.
Vs. Brady
Comfort High picked up its first district win of the year last Friday and had to put in a little extra work to earn the victory.
Comfort was at Brady and defeated the Bulldogs 11-10 in eight innings.
The Deer trailed 8-3 going into the fifth inning but exploded for 7 runs to pull ahead 10-8. One of those hits was a home run by Paige Werner.
Brady answered with 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a twoout rally and it was tied at 10-10.
Neither team scored in the sixth or seventh frame to send it to the top of the eighth inning where Comfort scratched for a run for the 11-10 lead.
In the inning, Jordan Judkins doubled, moved to third on a fielder’s choice and then stole home for the one-run lead.
Brady still had to bat but Ella Thiele struck out the first two batters she faced. A hit batter put a runner at first, but Thiele struck out the next batter to end it.
Comfort smacked the ball well and outhit the Bulldogs, 17-7. Werner drove in 2 runs, Judkins finished with 4 hits and scored 3 times, Thiele helped her cause with a double and 3 singles, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored, while McCullough hit 3 singles, picked up 3 RBI and scored 2 runs.
Werner threw 3 innings, gave up 3 hits and struck out 3 batters, while Thiele went 5 innings in the circle and yielded 3 hits and fanned 9.
