Tivy tops Lady Greyhounds with walk-off double

A walk-off double in extra innings decided the outcome of Tuesday’s softball contest between Kerrville Tivy and the visiting Boerne Greyhounds.

Tuesday’s contest was knotted at 3-3 going into the bottom of the eighth when a double by the Lady Antlers brought in the game-winning run to give Tivy the 4-3 win.

Boerne drops to 4-6 in district (13-6 overall). The Lady Hounds hosted district front runner Veterans Memorial Friday night and visits Smithson Valley on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s contest in Kerrville was scoreless until the fifth when both teams finally scored. Kenley Thomason singled and came home on a ground out by Leni Caldwell for the 1-0 lead.

Tivy took advantage of a couple of BHS errors in the bottom half of the inning and pushed in 2 runs with a 2-RBI single for the 2-1 lead.

Addison Reidy singled in the sixth to bring in Tessa Murphy and Brooklynn Thomason and the Lady Hounds were back on top 3-2, but Tivy tied it in the bottom half of the inning on a sac bunt to score a runner from third and it was 3-3.

After neither team scored in the seventh, it went to the eighth frame. With two outs, Kenley Thomason reached but the Antlers recorded the next out to send it to the bottom half of the inning.

With one out, Lily Olafson walked, stole second and then scored on a Bailey King double to end it.

Both teams finished with 6 hits and Kenley Thomason had 2 of those base knocks and took the only walk offered up by Tivy pitcher Parker Jachade, while Reidy collected 2 RBI for BHS.

Boerne’s Micah Bellamy threw 7.1 innings, yielded 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 4 walks and struck out 11.
