6-3 Boerne Champion competed well against the Smithson Valley softball team Tuesday night, but the Lady Rangers still found a way to win after they doubled up the Lady Chargers in a low-scoring game, 6-3.

Champion has dropped six of its last seven district games and falls to 3-7 in 26-5A (8-9 overall). The Chargers were off Friday and will visit Alamo Heights Tuesday before playing at Boerne High on Thursday.

Smithson Valley plated a run in the first and tallied 3 more runs in the second for the 4-0 lead before Champion could get its offense going.

In the third inning, Torin Tucker walked, McKenzie Wilson singled and then Mylie Parker tripled to bring in both base runners and cut the lead in half, 4-2.

Parker later scored on a Reese Rogers grounder and it was 4-3 with only one out, but the Rangers recorded the next two outs to close the inning with a one-run advantage.

Smithson Valley added to its lead with two more runs in the fourth frame thanks to four straight singles and it was 6-3, while the Chargers were kept off the board in the final three innings.

Parker, Wilson and Brylyn Thornburgh accounted for Champion’s 3 hits, while Tucker, Wilson and Parker scored one run each. Also, Rogers picked up an RBI and Parker brought in two runs.

Parker threw 114 pitches in six innings of work, scattered 12 hits, gave up 6 earned runs, 3 walks and sat down 3.
