Bobcats beat up Buffs twice last week

Comfort High took care of business in its two baseball games with Florence last week.

The Bobcats beat the Buffaloes Tuesday at home, 23-2, and then defeated Florence by almost the same score Friday on the road, 22-2.

CHS improved to 2-0 in district (15-2-1 overall) and will play two games with Ingram Moore this week. The Cats were at Ingram on Tuesday and will host Thursday’s contest.

Comfort 22, Florence 2

Comfort knocked out 16 hits in last Friday’s game and scored 2, 2, 8, 7 and 3 runs in five innings. Florence pushed in 2 runs in the third for their only offense of the game.

Mason Matt smacked a 2-run homer for the Bobcats in the fourth inning, hit 2 singles, finished with 3 RBI and 4 runs scored, while Matt Kemp and Mason Matter both tripled for the Bobcats.

Kemp added 2 singles to his triple, drove in 4 runs and scored 4 times, while Matter added 2 singles to his triple, scored twice and picked up 3 RBI.

Nic Carlos doubled, pushed in 2 runs and scored a run, Gunner Carpenter walked and scored 2 runs, Augie Diaz de Villegas hit 3 singles, pushed in 2 runs and scored twice, Dax Stehling banged out 2 singles, collected 3 RBI and scored a run, Owen Schulze walked and scored, Cade Woerner walked twice and scored twice, Rhyder George singled, drove in 2 runs and scored 2 runs while Waylon Davis walked and scored.

Matter went 3 innings on the bump and gave up 1 hit, 2 runs, 4 walks and fanned 3, while Schulze tossed 2 frames and yielded just one hit, no runs and 2 walks.

Comfort 23, Florence 2 Comfort didn’t have too many problems in its district opener and defeated Florence, 23-2, at home on Tuesday in 4.5 innings.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, the Bobcats answered with 8 in the bottom half of the inning, followed by 2 runs in the second and 13 in the third. After the Buffs didn’t score in the top of the fourth, it was called due to the mercy rule.

Comfort tallied 12 hits in the game and was led at the plate by Cade Woerner, who almost hit for the cycle after he tripled, doubled, singled, walked, collected 5 RBI and scored 3 runs.

Dax Stehling and Rhyder George both doubled, and Stehling also singled, pushed in 3 runs and scored 3 runs, while George drove in 4 runs. Mason Matt walked twice and scored 3 runs, Gunner Carpenter singled, walked twice and scored 2 runs, Augie Diaz de Villegas singled, drove in a run and scored once, Matt Kemp hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored 3 runs, Mason Matter took 2 walks, singled, had an RBI and scored 3 runs, Owen Schulze singled, picked up an RBI and scored 3 runs, Nic Carlos drove in a run and Travis Gwaltney walked and scored.

Carpenter threw all four innings and yielded 3 hits, no earned runs, walked 2 and struck out 3.
