Lady Mules pull away from Charger softball team

One good inning by the Alamo Heights softball team was the difference in Tuesday’s 26-5A contest against Boerne Champion.

The Lady Mules were trailing when the fourth frame went to the bottom half of the inning but tallied 5 runs and never trailed from there and went on to win the contest in San Antonio, 10-6.

Champion dropped to 3-8 in district (8-10 overall) and played at Boerne High on Thursday. They’ll host Pieper and New Braunfels next week.

The Chargers scored 2 runs in the first inning, but the Mules matched that with 2 runs in the second to knot it at 2-2.

Champion pushed in a couple more runs in the top of the fourth and were up 4-2, but the Mules answered with 5 runs in the bottom of the inning and scored all of them with two outs.

When the dust had settled, Alamo Heights was leading 7-4 and never trailed from there.

In the fifth, Aidan Kavanagh singled to bring in 2 runs and the Chargers were within a run at 7-6, but the Mules added to their lead with a run in the fifth and scored 2 more in the sixth for the 10-6 lead.

Champion outhit the Mules, 8-7, but also committed 6 errors, which allowed Alamo Heights to score 8 unearned runs.

Torin Tucker singled and doubled, Teagan Rogers hit 2 singles, scored and drove in a run, Reese Rogers plated 2 runs, Brylyn Thornburgh knocked out 2 singles and drove in 2 runs, Kavanagh picked up 2 RBI with her single and Anna Hurst singled, pushed in a run and scored once.

Mylie Parker went 4 innings in the circle, gave up 3 hits, no earned runs, 2 walks and struck out 5, while Hurst tossed in the final 2 frames and yielded 4 hits, 2 earned runs, no walks and struck out a batter.
