Lady Rangers record shutout against Lady Hounds

There wasn’t much difference in the final hit count between the Boerne High and Smithson Valley softball teams on Tuesday, but there was a difference on the scoreboard.

BHS finished with 4 hits but couldn’t score, while the Lady Rangers tallied 6 hits and scored 4 runs to defeat the Lady Greyhounds in Spring Branch, 4-0.

Boerne High slipped to 5-7 in district (13-7 overall) and hosted Boerne Champion on Thursday. The Hounds visit Alamo Heights on Tuesday.

A single and a walk, followed by a double in the second inning, gave Smithson Valley a 2-0 lead.

The Rangers loaded the bases in the third with no outs and Boerne limited the damage, but the Rangers still pushed in a run on a sac fly to make it 3-0. From there, SV knocked in another run in the fourth frame for the 4-0 advantage and held the lead until the end.

Tessa Murphy, Lizzie Thornton, Leni Caldwell and Cerissa Nasis accounted for Boerne’s four hits in the game.

Boerne loaded the bases in the first frame with one out, but the Rangers didn’t allow a run, and in the seventh, Caldwell made it to third base with one out, but the Rangers turned a double play to end the game.

BHS’s Micah Bellamy threw six innings and scattered 6 hits, gave up 3 earned runs, 4 walks and sat down 3 batters on 102 pitches.
