Geneva concludes 2026 softball season with big win

Geneva School of Boerne closed out its 2026 softball season on a high note after the Eagles defeated Corpus Christi John Paul II, 20-13.

The Eagles end the year at 4-6 in district and 6-7 overall under first-year coach Trey Smith. They were fourth in the district where the top three teams advanced to the postseason.

Smith said it was a solid year for his young team.

“Though we didn’t get into the playoffs, it was a great season,” he said. “We grew closer as a team and made huge improvements as the season went along.”

There was a lot of offense in Geneva’s finale after the teams combined for 33 runs and 33 hits.

Geneva tallied 16 of those hits and was outhit by JPII by one after the Centurions recorded 17 of them.

The Eagles trailed 13-12 at one point but scored the last 8 runs of the game after they pushed in a run in the sixth and blew it open with 7 runs in the seventh.

Reese Smith almost hit for the cycle after she tripled, doubled and smacked 2 singles, while driving in 2 runs and scoring 2 runs and Carlyle Harden hit a double and 4 singles, collected 4 RBI and scored 3 runs.

Lila Fleming was hit by a pitch twice, doubled and drove in a run, Gracyn Miller doubled, took 4 walks, picked up 3 RBI and scored 3 runs, Sydney Schaefer hit 2 singles, scored 2 runs and pushed in 2 runs, Landy Smith doubled and singled and knocked in 2 runs, Ruby Svendsen plated 3 runs, Kendall Sehlke doubled, walked 3 times, picked up an RBI and scored a run, Hayes Harden touched home plate twice and Katelyn Lindquist tallied 4 runs, while Carolyn Lutz was hit by a pitch five times.

Fleming tossed all seven innings and picked up the win on 116 pitches. She gave up 17 hits, 6 earned runs, 2 walks and struck out 7.

Reese Smith is the team’s only senior and Coach Smith said he’s excited about the future but will miss Reese being part of the team.

“The future is bright for Geneva softball and I’m blessed to be a part of it,” he said. “Big things are coming as we will return everyone next year with the exception of our senior leader Reese Smith. She left an incredible mark on the program.”
