Boerne watching weather for graduation ceremonies

BOERNE — Forecasts of inclement weather may lead to the Boerne Independent School District altering start times for its Thursday or Friday night graduation ceremonies.

The National Weather Service shows an 80% chance of rain Thursday, when the Champion Chargers Class of 2026 is to cross the stage at Boerne ISD Stadium beginning at 8 p.m.

Rain remains in the forecast Friday, at 30 percent, when the Boerne Greyhounds Class of 2026 crosses the same stage.

“As we prepare to honor our graduates this week, the district is closely monitoring the hour-by-hour forecasts,” a post on the BISD website states. “We ask that our graduates and families remain flexible in the event that we need to adjust the ceremony start times.”

Safety, the district said, remains our top priority as we plan these memorable ceremonies for our graduates and families.

“While the district fully intends to hold the graduation ceremonies outside at Boerne ISD Stadium, we are exploring alternate indoor venues should the weather forecast indicate hazardous conditions,” BISD said. Last year, storms interrupted the Boerne High graduation ceremony. Half the class received their diplomas at the May 22 event before a series of lightning storms moved through the area. After a two-hour delay, the ceremony was postponed until 9 a.m. the following morning.

Parents and attendees are asked to monitor the Boerne ISD website and Facebook pages, where updates will be loaded should inclement weather become a factor.
