Crony corruption

Editor, Many of us have long been asking just when will one of President Trump’s stunts finally break the hold he has over too many voters in this country.

Regrettably, every time he takes yet another hideous step in his interminable quest to wreck our country, it seems he and his cronies are somehow able to emerge wealthier and with nary a scratch. It’s enough to make liberal heads explode (which I expect all—Republicans enjoy immensely).

That said, there’s something in the air suggesting that some Republicans just might be pondering the possibility of jumping ship — this even in a place like Boerne, where Republicans are generally so full of hubris about being Republican that they never so much as question what Republican hegemony is doing to this country.

As of this writing, Trump’s most recent stunt is to “settle” his bogus lawsuit against himself — in the form of the IRS — for a whopping $1.8 billion of taxpayer money.

Allow me to repeat this. The IRS, over which the president has executive authority, will pay $1.8 billion of taxpayer money into a slush fund that will be used to disburse meritless payouts to that very same president’s cronies, media allies and moneyed backers.

If this doesn’t spell corruption, I can’t imagine what does.

It’s a given that too many of you in these parts will never, ever renounce your blind support for Trump. However, one has to hope that his appalling venality and corruption will give some of you pause — and perhaps even break your mind-numbing devotion to this man who would be king.
