Boerne ISD announced its latest class selected for induction into the Boerne ISD Athletic Hall of Honor. The class of 2026 will be officially inducted into the Boerne ISD Hall of Honor at a luncheon to be held at The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch on Friday, Oct. 2, 11:30 a.m.
This year’s class includes the 2010-11 Boerne Champion 4A boys state soccer championship team, former Greyhound and Champion head baseball coach Chuck Foster and former Champion volleyball player Claire Kreuz, while Jeff Dabbs will receive the Bill Canavan Memorial Benefactor Award for his contributions to Boerne ISD athletics.
2010-11 Champion boys soccer team
Boerne Champion captured the 4A boys state title during the 2010-11 season and was one victory shy of 30 wins after they finished the year with a record of 29-3-1.
The Chargers were coached by David Rogers and assistants Mike Bonewald and Eddie Ashley.
Champion went 8-0 in district play that year and rolled through the playoffs by defeating their first six postseason opponents by a combined score of 25-3 and posted three shutouts during that stretch.
Once at state, the Chargers recorded another shutout after they beat Humble Kingwood Park in the state semifinals, 2-0, behind goals from Connor McKeon and Alex Rubio.
In the championship game, the Chargers defeated Kilgore 2-1 and took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals from Bryce Berry and McKeon.
Barry was named the state tournament MVP, while Kyle Bullard, Rubio and McKeon were named to the all-tournament team.
Bullard was their main goalie, and with the help of the rest of the defense, the Chargers finished with 17 shutouts that year. Rubio tallied 45 goals that season as the team won their final 20 matches.
It was the second state title for Rogers at Boerne ISD. He also led the Greyhounds to the 2006 state championship and is only one of two coaches to win state titles at both Boerne ISD schools as a head coach. (Dave Fulkerson is the other with cross country). Rogers claimed another state champion in 2021 with NEISD’s LEE.
Team members that year were Kyle Bullard, Taylor Donowho, Cullum Simpson, Grayson Vansickle, Bryce Barry, Matt Dorsey, Cody Gentry, Forrest Voss, Byron Hager, Bryce Buckingham, Jacob Hernandez, Chris Schluter, Dustin Morgan, Alex Rubio, Connor McKeon, Connor Czar, Thomas Reeve, Dean Luttrell, Trey Jones, Brant Dulaney, Billy Martin, Evan Webb, Chase Huntzinger, Travis Hayden, Brennan Hutchens, Eric Styskal, Austen McDonough and Trevor Surratt.
Chuck Foster
Chuck Foster coached with Boerne ISD for 19 years and retired from teaching/coaching after 29 years in education in 2021. He spent the previous 10 years before coming to BISD at Deer Park.
Foster led the Boerne High baseball team to their only state title in 2004 after the Greyhounds defeated Denton Ryan in the 4A championship game at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. The Raiders had two athletes that eventually played Major League Baseball, including a first-round pick, but the Greyhounds were the better team that day and beat them 5-1 to win the title.
Foster coached the Greyhounds for six seasons and was the last baseball coach the Greyhounds had before the district split and opened a new high school. He was Champion’s first baseball head coach and held that position for 13 years until his retirement.

Foster collected 425 wins between the two BISD schools and guided the Greyhounds to the regional championship rounds in 2004 and 2005 and also led the Chargers to the regional championships rounds in 2012 and 2016.
After his retirement from education, Foster has served as a campus pastor at Mission City Church since 2021.
Claire Kreuz
Claire Kreuz was one of the most decorated volleyball players to come through Boerne Champion and helped lead the Chargers to three district titles before going on to play at the NCAA Division I level for four years.
The 2012-13 Champion graduate played on the varsity all four years of high school and was coached by Troy Errington.
Kreuz was the district’s Newcomer of the Year as a freshman in 2009, was a first-team all-district pick as a sophomore and helped to lead the Chargers to the first of three straight district titles that season. She closed out her career at Champion as the District MVP in 2011 and 2012 and led the Chargers to their first regional finals appearance in 2012 during her senior season.
Kreuz was a Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State selection following her junior and senior seasons and she played in the TGCA All-Star game in 2012.
After high school, Kreuz played for two years at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and started as a freshman. She spent two years with the 49ers and recorded more than 500 career kills. She finished her career at Texas State University by competing in one of the nation’s most competitive volleyball conferences.
Bill Canavan Memorial Benefactor Award Jeff Dabbs has been an outstanding supporter of Boerne ISD athletics through BEST and the Champion Booster Club, with continued service long after his children graduated from the district.
About the Hall of Honor

A committee was formed by Boerne ISD Athletic Director Stan Leech to help with the selection process. To be considered for the Boerne ISD Hall of Honor, each athlete or team nominated must have graduated a minimum of 10 years prior to being selected, while a coach must be five years removed from coaching in the district.
