GUNNISON, Colorado — Boerne native Ainsley Rosenow received Western Colorado University’s highest honor for graduating seniors at an awards ceremony this spring, paving the way for her enrollment in an Ivy League college for her master’s work.
As one of only eight recipients of the 2026 Alumni Award for Excellence, Rosenow joins the ranks of some of Western’s most distinguished alumni and will be remembered for her contributions to the campus community.
Rosenow graduated May 9 Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and environment and sustainability, with an emphasis in climate action planning. She enrolled at Cornell University in June to pursue a master’s degree in environment and sustainability policy. For the last 29 years, members of Western’s Alumni Advisory Council have met each spring to consider the nominations of students from nearly every department. The committee’s goal is to find the most select group of nominees who have spent their time on campus committed to being the best version of themselves and exemplifying what it means to be a Mountaineer.
“Four seemingly short years ago, I moved 1,000 miles from my Texas home to Gunnison, Colorado,” Ainsley said. “I knew no one here but had high expectations and aspirations as I planned and set out on my ‘adventure.’
“I never could have imagined then just how life-changing this decision would be. I am truly grateful for this recognition, and for everyone at Western,” she added.
“These students represent the very best of Western. Their success is rooted in strong mentorship, meaningful opportunities, and a community that challenges them to grow,” said Western’s Vice President for Advancement Shelley Thompson. “The Alumni Awards for Excellence are a celebration of that journey.”
