Gloria Lee Gandy went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 26, at the age of 92.
Born on Feb. 12, 1934, and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, she is a graduate of Central High School. She attended Western Michigan University before enrolling in flight attendant school, where she earned her certification and began flying for Braniff Airlines in 1954.
In January 1956, while living in Dallas, Texas, Gloria met the love of her life, Bob Gandy, on a blind date. The two were married that June and shared 61 wonderful years of marriage before Bob's passing in 2017. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and lasting friendships.
After beginning her career as a flight attendant, Gloria chose to become a stay-at-home mother following the birth of their first son. She embraced every stage of life with enthusiasm, teaching fitness classes at the local YMCA after taking trampoline instruction herself. When the family moved to San Antonio in 1968, Gloria developed a lifelong passion for tennis. She and Bob enjoyed many years playing league tennis and golf as active members of Canyon Creek Country Club and later Fair Oaks Ranch Golf & Country Club. Their faith was the foundation of their lives, and they were devoted members of Coker Methodist Church in San Antonio, Fir s t United Methodist Church and Currey Creek Church in Boerne.
Gloria's greatest joy was supporting her family. She was a familiar face at all her sons', grandsons', and granddaughter’s sporting events. When her boys played high school football, she was deeply involved with Bob in the Churchill Charger Booster Club. Gloria was one of the dedicated moms who began the tradition of preparing meals for the coaches prior to Monday night Booster Club meetings. After their move to Fair Oaks, Gloria and Bob were loyal Boerne High School football season ticket holders for more than 35 years and passionate fans of Baylor athletics and the San Antonio Spurs.
Once her sons were away at college, Gloria embarked on a successful second career in real estate with Hallmark Bradfield, where she worked for 20 years. She was among the pioneering agents who helped introduce families to the newly developed Stone Oak community, leaving a lasting mark on one of San Antonio's fastest- growing areas.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, George and Evelyn Myers, and her beloved husband, Bob.
She is survived by her sons, Gregg Gandy and his wife, Pam, of Fair Oaks Ranch, and Geff Gandy and his wife, Nanci, of Horseshoe Bay; her grandchildren, Matt Gandy and his wife, Katie, of Austin, Grant Gandy and his wife, Kaylin, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Garrett Gandy and his wife, Kaley, of Dallas, and Grace Gandy of Dallas; and her great-grandchildren, Cami, Oliver, Benjamin, Everett, Griffin and Brooklyn.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 1 p.m. at Holt and Holt Funeral Home, 319 E. San Antonio Ave, Boerne, Texas. Reception to follow ( 2- 4 p. m.) at Richter’s 153 S. Main St., Boerne, Texas.
The Gandy family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Poet's Walk Memory Care, especially April Rodriguez, and to the compassionate team at Journey Hospice, especially Makayla Nizza, for the exceptional care, kindness, and comfort they provided during Gloria's final years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Boerne.
