Are you traveling this Summer? No matter your method of reading and enjoying books, the Boerne library has you covered.
If you are fond of listening to audio books while traveling, there are many to choose from in e-audiobook format through the Libby and Cloud Library apps. Here’s one I recently discovered and enjoyed, “Dear Mrs. Bird” by A. J. Pearce. In this novel, plucky young Emmeline Lake dreams of becoming a war correspondent during The Blitz in London. Instead, she is hired by an antiquated women’s magazine, working for an old battle axe who thinks young people should still be sticking to Victorian standards. Through perseverance, Emmeline drags the foundering magazine into the 20th century.
“Dear Mrs. Bird” is available to listen to through the Cloud Library app.
Reading on devices while traveling can be convenient, and I recently downloaded the novel “The Forget-Me-Not Library,” through the Cloud Library app.
This charming novel by Heather Webber is set in the small town of Forget-Me-Not, Alabama. The town library is enchanting and draws together women looking for meaning and companionship in their lives. If you’re “old school,” and prefer taking along physical books on trips, a new novel, “Sipsworth,” by Simon Van Body is beautifully written.
“Sipsworth” tells the story of an elderly woman who returns to her village in England from Australia, after the rest of her family has passed on.
This lovely woman is at a loss, until she adopts a stray mouse she names Sipsworth. Her furry young friend gradually reconnects her to the world and gives her life meaning again. This novel is cataloged in the library.
Speaking of books and reading, our library’s summer reading challenge wrapped up on Friday, July 24. Also, make plans to attend the library’s grand finale to our summer programming from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. Chance Forever will feature some of their fabulous birds of prey on the back library lawn right at 10:00 a.m., then the Dinosaur George interactive exhibit will be available to enjoy inside.
