Greyhounds race at Friday Night Lights XC event

Boerne High began the 2026 cross country season last week at the Friday Night Lights meet in San Antonio.

The Lady Hounds finished second, while a young BHS boys team came in 24th. The Boerne boys had only five runners, none of them seniors, and only one junior. The rest were either freshmen or sophomores.

Boerne ran at Medina Valley on Saturday and then races at the Buda Hays meet the following weekend.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Hounds tallied 111 points for second, while South Texas Heat – Christian ran away with the title after scoring 22 points and had the top four finishers. Medina Valley was third with 127 points.

Presley Merkens led the Boerne team after she was 10th in adjusted scoring with a time of 19:58, Sutton Amerman finished 18th in 20:30, Lucille Frank was one spot back in 19th with a 20:31 and Ansley Schiller posted a 21:03 for 25th as the Lady Greyhounds did a good job of pack running.

Penelope Kirk turned in a 21:36 for 39th, Ainsley Purcell was one spot back in 40th at 21:46 and Aubrey Moehrig came in 68th at 23:03.

Varsity Boys

O’Connor won the meet with 96 points, Boerne Champion took second at 130 and Sotomayor placed third with 146, while the Greyhounds finished 24th with a score of 574 in the field of 26 teams.

Colin Bartonicek had the highest finish for the Greyhounds after he was 92nd in adjusted scoring with a time of 18:16, Kyle Clark posted an 18:52 for 111th, Levi Mendoza finished two spots back in 18:52 for 113th, Stefan Bain posted a 19:14 for 123rd and Kevin Rogers came in 135th with a time of 19:38.
