Boerne Champion opened its 2026 cross country season last week at the Friday Night Lights meet in San Antonio and both varsity squads finished in the top 5.
The Champion boys tallied 130 points for second and the Lady Chargers were fifth with 149 points. The Chargers are scheduled to run at the Westlake Meet in Austin this weekend and at the Buda Hays meet the following week.
Varsity Boys
O’Connor won the meet at 96 points, followed by Champion at 130, while Sotomayor was third at 146 in the field of 26 teams.
Shawn Edwards was the highest finisher on a complete team and was third overall at 15:30 but finished first in the adjusted team scoring.
Brandon Martinez placed 17th in 16:32, Noah Moreno was 19th in 16:35, Sebastian Carvallo finished 39th in 17:01, Pierce Mitchell tallied a 17:18 and Abhiram Bhogireddy was 57th in 17:26.
Chargers coach Sheila West said the final results omitted one of her runners and might have changed the final outcome. Mason Nelson ran for Champion, but his time wasn’t included in the final results and Nelson was their fourth runner.
West said she emailed the meet director but never heard back from them.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Chargers tallied 149 points to finish fifth at the meet where South Texas Heat – Christian ran away with the title after scoring 22 points and had the top four finishers.
Boerne’s girls were second with 111 points, Medina Valley placed third at 127 in the field of 17 teams, while Brandeis was fourth at 137.
Rebecca Bezerra was fifth in the adjusted scoring with a time of 18:47, Kaylee Tierney was 20th in 20:31, Luciana Zazueta Ibarra was 24th in 21:00, Ellis Conroy posted a 21:58 for 44th, Abigail Alger came in 56th with a time of 22:20 and Kyrie Hollinger finished 74th by clocking in at 23:20.
