Both the Boerne High and Boerne Champion tennis teams were in action as they moved into district play. They’ll still pick up non-district matches along the way as they both prep for the playoffs.

Boerne Champion
The Boerne Champion tennis team hosted John Jay last week to begin district action. In a battle of horse mascots, the Chargers tamed the Mustangs 19-0 to start district.
Champion was also in action last Saturday and played Eagle Pass in Pearsall and rolled to an easy win, 17-2. The Charger JV took on Pearsall that day and won, 19-0.
The Chargers continued district play this week and played at Harlandale on Thursday and then hosted Pieper on Friday in a non-district match. They are scheduled to host Antonian on Tuesday in another non-district match.
Champion was 6-1 overall (1-0) heading into their match with Harlandale.
Boerne High
After a lopsided win over Harlandale on Aug. 18, the Boerne High varsity tennis team took a week off and returned to the court this past Tuesday when they played San Angelo Central in Mason.
Boerne had a tight match with San Angelo Central and dropped a close one, 10-9. It was 9-8 and Central clinched it at 10-8, but the coaches let the final match on the court finish, and the Greyhounds won that one.
BHS is 5-3 overall and 1-0 in district after their win over Harlandale.
“It was a great match all around with amazing competitive spirit,” head coach Tyson Stewart said.
The Greyhounds host South San on Tuesday, Sept. 1 as they continue league play at home. After that, they visit McCollum on Sept. 9 for another district match.
