Javelinas tally final 28 points of the game to defeat Bobcats

Comfort High on the road Friday and visited Crystal City, home of the Popeye statue and the spinach capital of Texas.

Apparently, the Javelinas ate their spinach because they were strong to the finish and defeated the Bobcats, 35-23.

Crystal City was trailing 23-7 at halftime but the Javelinas tallied the final four touchdowns of the game to get the win after they outscored the Bobcats 28-0 in the second half.

The Bobcats held a 10-0 advantage after a 38-yard field goal by Omar Rivera and a 47-yard run by Aiden King run in the first quarter. Jared Valadez added to the lead with a 10-yard TD run and Comfort was up 17-0.

Crystal City tallied a touchdown late in the first half on a Jordan Urrabazo 28-yard run, but Comfort answered with another King scoring run and the Bobcats took a 23-7 lead into the break, but didn't score after that.

The Javelinas sliced into the lead in the third with a Giovanni Gutierrez 3-yard run to make it 23-13 after a missed extra point. Gutierrez added another TD run late in the third and it was 23-21 after a a successful 2-point try. 

Eli Hernandez gave the Javelinas their first lead of the game with on a 10-yard sprint into the end zone and Crystal City was up 29-23 with 1:06 left after another successful 2-point conversion. 

Comfort had the ball with about a minute left after the kickoff, but a Bobcat pass was picked off and returned 37 yards for a touchdown by Felix Luna as Crystal City scored three touchdowns in the final 3:34 of the game to complete the comeback.
