Chargers challenge Health Careers and Brandeis in water polo

Boerne Champion continued district water polo action last Saturday at the Northside Natatorium against Health Careers and Brandeis.

The Champion boys swept both matches, while the Lady Chargers split their two matches.

Champion played a district match against Boerne High on Thursday and will play at Alamo Heights this weekend against several teams in non-district action. The Chargers, along with St. Agnes, Strake Jesuit and Alamo Heights will be there.

Varsity Boys

In the boys matches, the Chargers defeated Health Careers, 18-5, and Brandeis, 19-8.

Champion is 16-3 overall and 6-0 in district.

Against Health Careers, Julius Hoxhaj paced the team with 5 goals, EJ Altermatt added 4 goals, Baron Stephens tossed in 3 goals and Jorge Almaugher had 2 goals, while four others knocked in one goal apiece.

Nicolas Mendoza and Landon Muenchow both tallied 3 assists apiece in the match, while Mendoza also came up with 3 steals.

Knox Armstrong and Rodrigo Almauguer were in goal for the Chargers.

Against Brandeis, the Chargers were up 13-2 at the half before winning 19-8 against the Broncos.

Hoxhaj again led the team in scoring and finished with 5 goals, Henry Nurnberger added 3 goals, Grant Perkins, Almaugher and Altermatt tallied 2 goals apiece.

Perkins and Altermatt both tallied 4 assists and Altermatt came up with 7 steals.

Knox Armstrong and Rodrigo Almauguer were in goal for the Chargers.

Varsity Girls

Champion beat Health Careers, 15-8, and fell to Brandeis, 11-5. The Lady Chargers are 10-9 overall and 4-2 in district.

Against Health Careers, Breanna Hempton and Bennett Rice both knocked in 3 goals, while Meghan Jackson, Sabrina Means and Abby Smith tallied 2 goals apiece.

Rice cooked up 4 assists and Hempton came up with 3 steals, while Ava Muellar and Lilian Ross both were in goal for the Chargers.

Breanna Hempton paced the Chargers with 3 goals against Brandeis, while Bennett Rice and Abby Smith recorded 1 goal each.

Rice came up with 5 steals, while Meghan Jackson and Hempton had 2 steals apiece.

Ava Muellar was in goal for the Chargers.
