Greyhound water polo teams play Brandeis and Health Careers, Lady Hounds start playoffs Monday

The Boerne High water polo teams were in action last weekend as the regular season starts to wind down.

BHS played Brandeis and Health Careers in district matches in San Antonio at the Northside Natatorium.

Boerne’s final regular-season game is this Saturday against Marshall, and then the girls will begin postseason play on Monday. It’s the first time a Greyhound water polo team has made the playoffs in their three-year history of playing the sport.

The Lady Hounds open the postseason Monday against Southwest at the Southwest Aquatics Center, 5 p.m.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Greyhounds split their two matches and stand at 3-6 in district and 4-9 overall.

Boerne lost to Brandeis, 13-5, but bounced back to defeat Health Careers, 11-4.

Against Brandeis, Makenna Henson and Gentry Jendrusch both tallied 2 goals apiece and Bonnie Johnson came up with 4 steals and Carly Robertson was in goal for the Hounds.

Against Health Careers, Makenna Henson led the team with 3 goals, while Kirstynn Williamson and Lucia Peterson tallied 2 goals apiece.

Ashlyn Jendrusch came up with 4 steals and Carly Robertson and Brooke Sachs were both in goal.

Varsity Boys

The Greyhounds fell to the Broncos, 23-2, and were defeated by Health Careers, 20-9.

Against Brandeis, Eliot Brown and Lucas Macias both netted goals for the Greyhounds.

Against Health Careers, Brown led the team with 3 goals, Parker Smith and Zachary Pyle both chipped in with 2 goals, while Pyle also came up with 2 steals.

The Hounds had a good second quarter against Health Careers and scored 4 goals to tie it 6-6 at the break, but HC won the second half, 14-3.

Dustin Farar was in goal for the Greyhounds in both matches.

BHS is 1-12 overall and 1-8 in district. They close out the regular season Friday against Marshall at the Northside Natatorium.
