Boerne Champion was at the Northside Natatorium last Saturday for district water polo matches against Clark and Marshall.
The Chargers close out the regular season Saturday against Health Careers and then the girls will start the playoffs Monday against Southwest Legacy at the SW Aquatics Center, 6:15 p.m., while the boys have a bye in the first round.
On the boys side, Champion beat Clark and picked up a forfeit win over Marshall. Instead of playing Marshall, the Chargers took on O’Connor in a non-district match and won.
On the girls side, the Lady Chargers defeated Marshall and lost by one goal to Clark.
Varsity Boys
Champion defeated Clark, 17-6, and beat O’Connor, 21-1.
Against Clark, Julius Hoxhaj led the team with 6 goals, EJ Altermatt added 3 goals, Landon Muenchow and Austin Lange both chipped in with 2 goals, while Jorge Almauguer, Grant Perkins and Jackson Hankins dished out 3 assists each.
Baron Stephens, Jorge Almauguer and Altermatt all came up with 4 steals, while Hankins, Knox Armstrong and Rodrigo Almauguer were in goal.
Against O’Connor, EJ Altermatt paced the team with 6 goals and Grant Perkins dished out 6 assists and came up with 3 steals.
Hankins, Armstrong and Almauguer were in goal for the Chargers.
Champion is 22-4 overall and 9-0 in district.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Chargers beat Marshall, 14-8, and then fell to Clark 12-11.
Against Marshall, Sabrina Means led the Chargers with 10 goals, Madeline Nurnberger, Ava Mueller came up with 5 steals, while Mueller and Lilla Chelkowski were both in goal for the Chargers.
Against Clark, Champion was held without a goal in the second quarter, and that was the difference in the 12-11 loss. Clark tallied 4 goals in that second stanza.
Breanna Hempton led the team with 5 goals and 3 assists, while Olivia Dunn and Ava Story had 2 steals each.
Ava Mueller was in goal for the Chargers.
The Lady Chargers are 14-11 overall and 6-3 in district.
