Boerne Champion took a scaled back team to race at the Seguin Matador XC Invitational last Saturday at Starcke Park.
Chargers coach Sheila West held back a lot of varsity runners, but the teams still performed well.
Champion was supposed to race in the Dallas area this week, but West canceled that meet, so their next varsity meet is Oct. 14, back in Seguin at Starcke Park for the District 26-5A contest.
Varsity Boys
The Champion boys were 11th with 259 points, while Churchill won the meet with 107 points, McKinney Boyd came in second at 127 and Lytle was third with 176 in the field of 26 teams and 184 runners.
Mason Nelson had the team’s highest finish after he was 25th in 16:40, Hector Canales placed 50th in 17:18, Taylor Lefler posted a 17:32 for 59th, Colin Gibbs ran a 17:33 for 62nd, Pierce Mitchell was one spot back in 63rd with a 17:36, Luke Longson recorded a 17:44 for 74th and Aaron Duran was 88th in 18:06.
Also for the Chargers, Brennan Williams finished in 18:18, Austin Ronemous posted an 18:23 and Christian Betz clocked in at 18:25.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Chargers were sixth with 173 points, while Churchill made it a clean sweep and won the girls race as well with 59 points, while New Braunfels was second at 67 and Pieper took third at 140.
Abigail Clark had the team’s highest finish with a 19:57 for 18th, Luciana Zazueta Ibarra was 21st in 20:05, Kaylee Tierney completed the course in 20:30 for 32nd, Peyton Salazar posted a 20:53 for 44th, Elena Duran came in 58th with a 21:20, Abigail Alger placed 63rd in 21:41 and Ellis Conroy was 66th in 21:43.
Kyrie Hollinger ran 22:15, Anorah Cerean finished in 22:21 and Catherine Whitman recorded a 23:24.
