Boerne High’s Makenna Henson became the school’s first Academic All-American in the sport of water polo.
The USA Water Polo Academic All-American Program bestowed the honor on Henson after her work in the classroom and in the water. The BHS junior is the first Greyhound water polo player to receive the award.
In another first, Henson helped the Boerne girls water polo team clinch a playoff spot this season. It’s the first time in the threeyear history of playing the sport that a Greyhound team has qualified for the postseason.
To be named a 2025-26 Academic All-American by USA Water Polo, a player must have a minimum 3.50 unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale for the current academic school year. The athlete must also hold a current, active USA Water Polo Gold membership and a player must have competed in a USA Water Polo National Event or a National Event Qualifier during that specific academic year.
Henson played at the 2026 Junior Olympics and is in her third year on the Greyhound varsity squad. She also plays with the U-18 Hill Country Viper Pigeon Water Polo Club.
