After a week off, Greyhounds host Long Creek on Thursday

The Boerne High football team is coming off its bye week and resumes district action Thursday at home against New Braunfels Long Creek.

Since Boerne ISD is on fall break this week, the teams agreed to play on Thursday, and this will allow the Greyhounds to get a three-day weekend.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Long Creek is in its first full varsity season and the New Braunfels school is experiencing some growing pains. They are still looking for their first win as a varsity program and enter the contest at 0-6 overall and 0-2 in district with losses to Alamo Heights and Legacy Ranch.

The Dragons are coming off a 52-14 setback at Alamo Heights and have given up more than 50 points in four of their six losses. One of their defeats was a non-district loss to Boerne Champion at BISD Stadium, 62-14.

BHS coach Brett Sawyer was at that game and scouting. The Greyhounds are heavy favorites, but Sawyer said they always take the same approach to practice and a game regardless of who the opponent is.

Boerne High rested up and fine-tuned last week and did some team bonding things like going bowling.

The Greyhounds are 5-0 overall (1-0) and are hoping to run the table in their five remaining games. After Long Creek, they’ll visit Liberty Hill on Oct. 16, they host Veterans Memorial on Oct. 23, visit New Braunfels on Oct. 30, and then close it out with Legacy Ranch at home on Nov. 6.

BHS defeated Alamo Heights before their bye week, 38-31.
