Geneva faces NBCA on short week

Geneva faces NBCA on short week

After a big win over Bay Area Christian that handed the Broncos their first loss of the season, Geneva School of Boerne didn’t have much time to celebrate because the Eagles plays New Braunfels Christian Academy on a short week.

Geneva (6-1, 2-1) visits the Wildcats (6-1, 2-1) on Thursday and has one less day to prepare, while NBCA played last Thursday, so they’ll have had a full week to game plan.

Like Geneva, the Wildcats are solid and both teams enter the contest at 2-1 in district and 6-1 overall.

Eagles coach Adam Foren said NBCA will be a tough challenge with one less day to prepare.

“It’s a short week at their place,” he said. “They’re having a good year. They have a good running back and a good senior quarterback.”

After this week, Geneva hosts Holy Cross, so it’ll be two straight weeks of games against teams they’ve seen a lot. The Holy Cross game is definitely a rival, and NBCA is pretty much a rival.

“(NBCA) has had some battles with Geneva in the past; both teams know each other,” Foren said. “New Braunfels and Holy Cross are teams we’ve seen more over the years. These next two weeks are your rivalry type games and are going to matter.”

NBCA has won the last two games against the Eagles that were high scoring, and they barely won. Last year, the Wildcats defeated the Eagles, 48-41, and in 2024, the New Braunfels school won by a field goal, 51-48.

Foren said he expects another high-scoring game, but scoring is something his team is good at. The Eagles have tallied 48, 49, 49, 50, 56 and 52 points in their six wins. Geneva is coming off a 52-33 win over Bay Area Christian and handed the Broncos their first loss of the year.

Geneva did lose their top receiver Reid Aderholt, who left the game with a lower leg injury. Foren said he hopes to have one of his top players back by the postseason.

“It hurts to lose him but probably more on defense since we’re an offensive heavy team,” he said. “Eight weeks into the season, he’s our main injury and that’s better than some of the other teams.”

In Friday’s win, Geneva QB Caleb Quitadamo was 29 for 34 through the air for 364 yards and five TDs, Aderholt caught 11 passes for 174 yards and two scores, Chase Doran added 6 catches for 78 yards and a TD, Walter Teague snagged 2 catches for 60 yards and a score, while Sam Horton caught a 5-yard TD pass.

Shae McNew carried the rock 19 times for 83 yards and a score, while Quitadamo added 18 yards on six totes and a rushing touchdown.
