Both Boerne Champion polo teams will continue postseason play after the Chargers boys and girls squads won third-round playoff matches on Tuesday afternoon.
The Champion boys defeated Churchill, 15-6, while the Lady Chargers beat district foe Brandeis, 11-7.
Champion plays in the regional tourney this weekend, with the regional semis on Friday and the finals on Saturday at SWISD Aquatics Center. The Lady Chargers played Harlan and the winner plays the winner of Clark and Brennan. The Champion boys faced Brennan on Friday and plays the winner of Alamo Heights and Harlan.
Varsity Boys
Champion improved to 24-4 overall with their third-round win.
The Chargers were up 6-0 in the first and took a 13-2 lead into halftime. They closed it out by outscoring Churchill in the second half, 4-2 and shutout the other Chargers in the third quarter.
Julius Hoxhaj led the team with 7 goals, 3 assists and 3 steals, while EJ Altermatt finished with 4 goals, 3 assists and 5 steals.
Jackson Hankins and Knox Armstrong were both in goal for the Chargers.
In their second-round match, the Chargers beat Johnson, 18-8.
Varsity Girls
Champion’s match with Brandeis was their third this year against their district foe. The Chargers won their first match on Aug. 29, 8-4, but the Broncos defeated the Chargers on Sept. 12, 11-5. However, Champion won the one that mattered most after posting the 11-7 win on Tuesday.
The Lady Chargers are 18-11 overall and won their second-round match over Pieper, 27-16.
Against Brandeis, Ava Story and Bre Hempton paced Champion with 3 goals and 2 assists apiece, while Sabrina Means added 2 goals on Tuesday. Meghan Jackson came up with 6 steals, Hempton had 5 steals and Ava Mueller finished with 4 steals.
Mueller was in goal and tallied nine saves.
