The high school cross country season is starting to wind down for teams across the state and UIL schools only have two meets left, while the TAPPS season will conclude this Saturday.
Boerne Champion, Boerne High and Comfort High will be sending teams to compete at the Region IV meet on Monday and Tuesday in Corpus Christi, while Geneva School of Boerne races at the TAPPS state meet this Saturday, Oct. 24, in Waco.
The Chargers, Greyhounds and Bobcats will race on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The Champion and Boerne High girls will be in the first race on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. on the campus of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
The 5A boys race is next at 8 a.m., while the Comfort boys team qualified and will race at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Champion and Boerne both qualified all their varsity teams to regionals after both finished in the top 3 at last week’s district meet in Seguin.
The Chargers swept both district varsity races, and for the boys, it was their 19th straight district title. Champion has won every district title since the school opened in 2008 on the boys side.
Boerne High will send both varsity teams to regionals after they were third in both races at district, behind Alamo Heights.
Comfort was at its district meet in Llano last week and its boys team placed third to move on, while the girls came in fifth and didn’t qualify for regionals.
Only the top three teams at district advance to regionals, and the top four teams at regionals move on to the state meet.
This year’s state meet will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The 6A, 4A and 2A races are Friday, while 5A, 3A and 1A schools compete on Saturday, which means that if any Boerne ISD teams or the Comfort boys qualify, they’ll race Saturday morning.
Geneva raced in Marble Falls last week in their final tune up and will head to the TAPPS state meet in Waco on Saturday.
There is no district or regional cross country meets for TAPPS. Each school is allowed to take their top seven runners directly to state and compete there.
