THE BOOKWORM
CASSIDY HERRERA & DEANNA O’MARAH
LIBRARY YOUTH DEPARTMENT
This month, we hosted a “Play & Learn Workshop” for families with children ages 1–3. This five-week program gives parents and caregivers the opportunity to connect with other families while meeting child development professionals from throughout the community.
Each week, families enjoy time playing and bonding with their little ones using age-appropriate toys that encourage imagination and exploration, along with a new sensory art activity.
One of the most rewarding parts of this program is getting to know each family and watching friendships grow as everyone becomes more comfortable with one another.
If this program sounds like a good fit for your family or someone you know, keep an eye out for registration announcements next spring!
On Oct. 24, Leah and Cassidy rolled out the Bookmobile to celebrate Boerne Boo with the community. They welcomed costumed children and families with plenty of smiles, sweet treats and a fun game. Visitors of all ages also had the chance to step inside the Bookmobile, browse the collection and take home a book or two.
Looking ahead, we have plenty of exciting programs in store for November. * Friday, Nov. 6: At 10 a.m., join us for a special program inspired by Sophie Blackall’s book, “Story Rug.” Children and families of all ages are invited to work together to create a braided rag rug that will be displayed at the Kuhlmann- King Historic House Museum.
Participants are welcome to bring fabric scraps from home, but if you don’t have any, don’t worry! Some will be provided. Come connect with your community, make memories, and help create something special together.
* Saturday, Nov. 7: At 10:30 a.m., head to the Youth Department’s outdoor porch for another creative, eco-friendly workshop with ReCrafted! Afterward, stop by the youth activity room for The Dream Project, where students from Champion High School will guide children in creating their own dream bracelets.
* Upcoming closures: Please keep our holiday schedule in mind as you plan your library visits. The library will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day, as well as Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, for Thanksgiving.
While our regular Youth Department programming will take a short break Nov. 23–25, we’ll have special activities planned to keep families entertained during the holiday week.
* Monday, Nov. 23: At 10 a.m., join us for “Turkey Tales and Tasty Treats.” Families with children of all ages can enjoy a Thanksgiving-themed storytime followed by a delicious edible craft they’ll get to assemble themselves. It’s the perfect way to kick off the holiday week.
* Wednesday, Nov. 25: At 10:30 a.m., Miss Dee Dee will lead a family storytime followed by a fun activity for everyone to enjoy. Bring the whole family, mark your calendars, and make the library part of your holiday traditions.
