Boerne Champion has 26 football players named all-district in 15-5A DII

A total of 26 Boerne Champion football players earned all-district recognition in 27 positions as voted upon by the 15-5A DII coaches.

A total of 26 Boerne Champion football players earned all-district recognition in 27 positions as voted upon by the 15-5A DII coaches.

One of the Champion players was recognized on both sides of the ball for the Chargers.

Three earned superlative awards, five were first-team offensive picks, three were second-team offensive selections and four more Chargers were voted honorable mention on the offensive side.

On the defensive side, six Chargers were first-team selections, five landed on the second team and one Charger was named honorable mention defense.

In the superlative voting, Jacob Gresham was voted the district’s Defensive MVP, Ryan Lira was named the Offensive Lineman MVP and Sawyer Bolli was named Defensive Newcomer.

Offensively, Karson Kaiser was first-team quarterback, Alex Rodriguez was as first-team running back, Ryan Brandon was a first-team wide receiver, Josh Kinter was a first-team offensive lineman and Will Wallace was a first-team kicker.

Three were second-team offensive picks after Kaleb Krause was a second-team tight end, Kannon Brooks was as second-team wide receiver and Anthony Sanchez was a second-team offensive lineman.

Honorable mention offensive selections for the Chargers include Louis Kleber, Evan Umbreit, Griffin Jones and Jordan Ballin.

On the other side of the ball, Carson Schwartz was a unanimous first-team defensive end, Kohl Kennedy was a first-team inside linebacker, Cade Gault was a first-team outside linebacker, Jacob Carraway was a unanimous first-team cornerback, Brenden Holland was a first-team safety and Jacob Contreras was a first-team special teams player.

Chris Janysek was a second-team defensive lineman, Tanner Lee was a second-team defensive end, Connor Holtorf was a second-team outside linebacker, Aidan Pickett was a second-team cornerback, while Karson Kaiser made it on both sides of the ball and was a second-team punter.

Cole Riha was named an honorable mention defensive player.

Champion had another strong season and posted a 9-3 record and were 4-1 in district to finish second. The Chargers advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the second straight season before they were eliminated from the postseason.
