Comfort High didn’t have anything on the line Friday night when they hosted South San West Campus at Bobcat Stadium to bring the curtain down on the regular season.
Comfort was the No. 3 seed out of its district no matter what happened in Friday’s contest but Bobcats coach Jay Rieken said he wanted a good game under their belt before entering the playoffs.
Well, they got it as the Bobcats went on to roll the Cougars, 51-0.
Comfort finishes the year at 5-5 overall and went 4-2 in District 15-3A DII.
The Bobcats open the playoffs Friday against 3A Taft in Floresville, 7:30 p.m.
Mason West scored three minutes into the game on a 2-yard run and that was all the offense the Bobcats would need to get the win since the CHS defense pitched its second district shutout this year.
Hunter Ledlow recovered a fumble in the end zone on a bad Cougars punt, Topper Sterling added a 44-yard touchdown run, and Micah Nye tacked on a 13-yard TD scamper and it was 28-0.
From there, Comfort’s defense put more points on the board. Landon Aguirre returned an interception 41 yards for a Pick-6 and it was 35-0 before the end of the first quarter.
Sterling and Gabe Gonzales recorded touchdown runs in the second half and the Bobcats held a 51-0 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Comfort didn’t score in the final stanza.
