Comfort scored early and often during Friday’s firstround playoff contest with Taft in Floresville.

The Bobcats tallied 67 points in their 67-28 win and part of the reason for the 67 was because Topper Sterling turned in a monster performance.

Comfort’s talented sophomore running back ran for 332 yards in Friday’s contest to lead the Bobcats into the second round.

As good as Sterling played, he wasn’t the only Bobcat who turned in some explosive plays in Friday’s contest.

Enrique Rodriguez returned a kickoff 86 yards for a score and Mason West scrambled into the end zone on a 75-yard run as the Bobcats jumped out to a 34-7 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Comfort’s defense played well while the offense was scoring points. The Bobcats held Taft to just 12 total yards of offense in the opening period.

CHS had an impressive 16-play drive in the second and pushed its lead to 41-7 with 3:34 left before halftime. It was Sterling who scored on a 5-yard run and the sophomore had already recorded 172 rushing yards by intermission.

West added another big run to find paydirt, this one from 30 yards out and helped the Bobcats pull ahead 48-7.

Taft hit a 47-yard TD pass early in the third but Sterling answered and recorded a 29-yard burst into the end zone to make it 55-14.

The third quarter ended with Comfort ahead 55-21 after Taft hit another long pass play of 40 yards.

Sterling added one more big play to his already impressive night early in the fourth with an 85-yard run to flip the field and put the ball at the Taft 12. Sterling finished the drive with a 5-yard touchdown sprint to make it 67-21.

Taft tallied the final TD of the night with 3:07 left but it was too little, too late as the Bobcats won big.
