The Lady Texans gave Boerne High all they could handle — at least in the first half — before the Lady Hounds wore down the girls from Wimberley in the second half.
BHS was only leading by six points at the break, 26-20, during Friday’s district contest at Greyhound Gym, but outscored the Lady Texans in the second half, 31-12, on its way to a 57-32 win.
Part of holding Wimberley to just 12 points in the second half involved the Lady Texans only scoring one point in the fourth quarter.
Boerne improves to 7-2 in district and 26-4 overall. The Lady Hounds visited Navarro Tuesday and host Canyon Lake Friday before closing out the regular season next Tuesday at Fredericksburg.
Things were tight early in Friday’s game with Boerne only leading by two at the end of the first quarter, 15-13. The Lady Hounds took the second stanza, 11-7, and it was a six-point game at the half but Boerne came out of the locker room after the break and turned in its best offensive quarter of the night.
BHS tallied 18 in the third and held Wimberley to 11 to open up a double-digit lead going into the final period, 44-31.
In the fourth, the Lady Hounds knocked in 13 to make it double digits in all four quarters, while the Lady Texans mustered one point.
Averi Aaron and Chloe Donnell both tallied 16 in the game and Abby Smith added 11.
Mickena Randle chipped in with 5, Savannah Salinas scored 4, Jenna Ruede had 3 and Meredith McLeod hit a basket for 2.
Aaron and Smith finished with double-digit rebounds after Aaron grabbed 14 boards and Smith snagged 11 rebounds.
Ruede dished out 6 assists, Aaron had 4 dimes and Smith 3 assists, while Donnell came up with 4 steals and Aaron blocked 2 shots.
