Champion challenges Cougars in 26-5A soccer

Both the Boerne Champion varsity soccer teams were in action Tuesday against New Braunfels Canyon.

The Champion boys were at home while the Lady Chargers were on the road.

Champion took on Kerrville Tivy Friday with the boys at home and the girls on the road. On Tuesday, the Champion girls will host Pieper and the boys are at Pieper.

Varsity Boys

The Chargers suffered their first loss of the year Tuesday at home after the Cougars won the match, 2-1.

It was 1-1 at halftime but New Braunfels Canyon scored early in the second half to make it 2-1 and held onto the lead from there.

Champion had a few chances in the second half but wasn’t able to convert.

Brogan Dempsey tallied Champion’s only goal in the match.

The Chargers are 6-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in district.

Varsity Girls

Champion was in New Braunfels to take on the Cougarettes and suffered their first district loss.

After scoring 17 goals in its first two district matches, Champion had a hard time getting its offense going and NB Canyon was able to defeat the Lady Chargers, 3-1.

Champion slips to 2-1 in district and is 3-6 overall.

Ava Slay tallied the team’s only goal Tuesday at NBC.
