A short-handed Boerne High boys soccer team didn’t seem to have any problems with Canyon Lake Friday at Charger Field.
Despite being down several starters, the Boerne boys rolled to a 4-1 win over the Hawks and stayed perfect in district at 9-0.
The Greyhounds are 16-0 overall and won’t wrap up district play until Tuesday, March 19, against Wimberley.
BHS has already clinched this year’s league title, their sixth in a row, and moved their district win streak to 46 straight victories.
Boerne coach Michael Strong said he was going to give his team most of spring break off and then return to practice towards the end of the week.
Strong also added that he hopes to be close to full strength by the time the playoffs start. He was down five starters at one point this season.
In last Friday’s match, the Greyhounds took a 4-0 lead into halftime and then worked on killing clock in the second half and didn’t score in the final 40 minutes.
Canyon Lake did score once in the second half, in the first two minutes, to erase the shutout but didn’t score after that.
Strong said he was glad to get out of the match without getting any more players hurt.
Brody Bowen, Hudson Stevens, Justin Bain and Elian Arreola all knocked in goals.
Felix Theiss, Arreola, Liam Griffiths and Bowen tallied one assist each.
