COMFORT — Florence broke open a close game with the Comfort softball team Tuesday after the Lady Buffs scored 9 runs in its final at bat.

It was 8-5 going into the final inning but the Buffs blew it open with those 9 runs and claimed 17-7 victory.

Comfort is 3-11 overall and 0-3 in district. They hosted Blanco Friday and visit Ingram Monday.

Because Florence scored those 9 runs in the top of the seventh, the Deer still had a chance to bat in the bottom of the seventh since they were the home team but only managed 2 runs.

Hits were about even after Florence recorded 14 base knocks and the Deer had 12.

Comfort actually held the lead at one point of the game at 4-2 after three innings but Florence plated 4 in the top of the fourth and never trailed from there.

The Deer answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-5 but the Buffs answered with 2 more in the fifth to open up an 8-5 advantage.

It stayed that way until the seventh when the wheels fell off the wagon for the Deer after they gave up 9 runs .

Kaydence Stehling hit a home run and a single for Comfort, scored twice and collected 4 RBI, while Ella Thiele tripled, hit 2 singles, scored 2 runs and picked up an RBI.

Katie Haffner hit 2 singles and drove in a run and Anna Munoz recorded 2 hits.

Thiele went all seven innings in the circle, struck out 8 and walked 9 she battled through a leg injury.
