BHS softball closes out first round of district

The Boerne High softball team closed out the first round of district action with a win at Wimberley in a game that turned high scoring.

BHS won 11-8 and stands at 3-2 through the first round. They opened the second round this week. They played Bandera Tuesday and host Davenport Friday.

Last Thursday’s game was tied twice, once at 1-1 and another time at 4-4 before the Lady Greyhounds recorded a big inning with 5 runs in the fourth to pull ahead.

In the bottom of the fourth, BHS put its first five batters on and scored 3 runs for the 7-4 lead before the Texans could record an out.

A couple more singles added 2 more runs and Boerne was leading 9-4 and never trailed from there.

Wimberley plated a run in the top of the fifth but BHS answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning and was leading 11-5.

The Texans made one last push in the top of the sixth and scored 3 runs and the lead was down 11-8, but Boerne recorded the third out to end the inning.

After Boerne didn’t score in the bottom of the sixth, it went to the seventh, and Wimberley put two runners on but the Greyhound defense held tight and didn’t give up a run in the frame.

Hits were about even after BHS tallied 13 and the Texans had 12 with two home runs for Wimberley and one for the Lady Hounds.

Boerne’s homer came in the second from Payton Dyal, who hit a solo shot and also singled and scored twice. Taylor Wilson finished with 2 doubles, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored, Cerissa Nasis hit 3 singles, drove in 4 runs and scored once.

Ava Renteria hit 2 singles, picked up an RBI and scored a run, Breanna Krause pushed in a run, Lizzy Thornton scored a run, Maddie Vasquez singled and drove in 2 runs, Ryleigh Hastings walked once, while Brooklynn Thomason hit 2 singles and scored 3 runs.

Jesseanna Aguirre went all 7 innings in the circle and picked up the win on 114 pitches. She scattered 12 hits, gave up 8 runs, walked 5 and struck out 2.
