Land stewardship series at the Cibolo Nature Center and Farm

    The Land Stewardship Series teaches landowners how to keep their property healthy.

The Cibolo Nature Center & Farm is hosting a Land Stewardship series for local landowners from now until May! We are offering a variety of topics to make the most out of your land. Join us for one or all of these highly informative events.

“We are excited to offer presentations such as these to give our local and regional landowners the knowledge they need to bring more birds to their property, combat oak wilt, identify plants and species on their property and more! We try to offer discussions for every type of landowner to encourage best practices for management.” Jennifer Freund, marketing and communications for the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm says.

The Land Stewardship series at the Cibolo will offer the follow schedule of events:

iNaturalist App WorkshopSaturday, Feb. 15 - Cibolo Nature Center & Farm - 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn how to use the iNaturalist app as a land management tool and how to ID and document plants, birds, insects and more while contributing to citizen science.

Presenter: Craig Hensley, Texas native tracker biologist, Texas Parks and Wildlife

Cost: $30 for members, $40 for non-members

Prescribed Burn Workshop – Saturday, Feb. 22 - Cibolo Nature Center & Farm - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Prescribed burning is safe and beneficial for wildlife and brush control. Experts in prescribed

burning will provide you with everything you need to know to conduct a prescribed burn.

Presenters: Dusty Bruns and Ben Eldredge

Cost: $50 for members, $60 for non-members

Prairie Restoration Workshop – Saturday, Feb. 29. – Herff Farm, 33 Herff Rd. - 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This workshop will cover land stewardship practices, preparation of old fields for restoration,

selecting and sourcing native seeds, as well as grants and programs to assist with land restoration.

Presenters: Rufus Stephens, Bill Neiman and Ben Eldredge

Cost: $30 for members, $40 for non-members

Attracting Birds to Your Land – Saturday, March 14 – Cibolo Nature Center & Farm, traveling to local ranch – 9 a.m. to noon. Dick Park, local birder and landowner, will show us how to attract nesting, migrant, and wintering birds to your land.

Presenter: Dick Park

Cost: $25 for members, $35 for non-members

Oak Wilt – Saturday, May 30 – Cibolo Nature Center & Farm – 9 a.m. to noon. Learn to identify oak wilt and options for managing and preventing oak wilt.

Presenter: Erin Davis, staff forester, Texas A&M Forest Service

Cost: $30 for members, $40 for non-members
