Hal Harwell has received the Rachel Morgan Betz Award, the highest honor given by the Genealogy Society of Kendall County. Betz was an avid genealogist and historian and served as the first president of the society.

Harwell has organized and directed the GSKC First Families Celebration for several years. The program honors the descendants of the founders and early settlers of Kendall County. Founders are defined as those who were present in Kendall County when it was formed in 1862. Early settlers are those who arrived before 1900.

Jennifer Bishop was recognized as “Volunteer of the Year” and President’s Awards were given to Kathryn Adam-Hurst and Janice Brazil for their work in editing the GSKC journal, Keys to the Past.
