Tim Handren has announced he is a candidate for mayor of Boerne.

“The decision to run for mayor stems from my optimism for our collective future and encouragement to run by an overwhelming number of citizens. After much discussion with my wife, we have decided we would be honored to commit ourselves even further to this great city. There are many important issues facing our community and I sincerely believe that citizen inclusion and pro-active communication is the key to our future success,” Handren said.

During this past year serving on the city council, Handren has spent time and energy meeting with the city staff, the business community and citizens of Boerne about a multitude of issues. These meetings included Republicans and Democrats, environmentalists and entrepreneurs, long-term residents and new residents, and many in between.

“In all of those discussions, I have found that there is more common ground than one might expect, especially when we sit down together and discuss things openly and honestly. This process of inclusiveness and open honest dialog is crucial to making our best decisions,” Handren said.

He has worked for USAA since 1986, his last six years as the chief operating officer. He says it was there that he learned the power of inclusiveness to find the best solution.

“Therefore, if elected, I will have a Mayor’s ‘cabinet’ of people from many diverse perspectives to provide me with direct input on issues that arise and to hold me accountable to openness and transparency. Additionally, I will make time for regular citizen round tables to promote continuous dialog and feedback. In the pursuit of long-term goals, it is my experience that success comes from respect for all people’s opinions and proper execution of strategic plans.” Handren said.

“I don’t pretend to have all the answers to the challenges we face as inevitable growth happens in and around Boerne. However, I certainly have the experience and energy to work with people of diverse perspectives to find outcomes that yield the greatest benefits. I look forward to working with the many smart and committed citizens of our great city to chart an exciting path forward.
