July 13, 1932 – Dec. 24, 2018
Henry Edwin Fischer, a longtime resident of Boerne, passed away Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at the age of 86 at Cibolo Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation in Boerne. Henry was born July 13, 1932 in Willow City. He was the youngest child of Edwin and Meta (Treibs) Fischer.
Henry grew up in Grapetown, attending school there until he was called upon to work on the family farm. In 1953, he was drafted into the Army and was sent to Germany where he was assigned as his Commanding Officer’s driver due to being fluent in the German language.
In 1954, Henry returned to Grapetown, returning to work and where his love of baseball provided the chance meeting of a pretty little girl named Ellen Mae Sprott. On April 14, 1956, they were married in Boerne where they would eventually move to in 1967 and stay there until both of their deaths.
Henry worked as a mechanic for the U.S. Post Office until his retirement in 1989. His love of family was immense, and his laughter was infectious. He will be truly missed by those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 53 years Ellen Mae; sisters Doris Cook, Florence Lux and Ellen Crenwelge; and brother Rudy Fischer.
Henry is survived by his children, Vickie (Fischer) Wiatrek and husband Roger of Stockdale, Roy and Diane (Loewen) Fischer of Boerne, Rickey and Sandra (Feller) Fischer of Rockport and Larry and Denise (Schwarz) Fischer of Boerne; grandchildren Ryan, Michael Wiatrek and Matthew Wiatrek and wife Morgan, Brandon and Kim Fischer, Bryan Fisher, Brent Fischer and wife Courtney, Karli and husband Andrew Voiles, and Tanner and Bailey Fischer; six great-grandchildren; and sister Irene Brandenburg of New Braunfels.
With much appreciation the family wants to thank the staff at Cibolo Creek Nursing and Rehab as well as the staff with Alamo Hospice who provided love and care for dad.
