Boerne Champion opened its 2019 girls soccer season at the National Elite Prep Showcase Tournament in Fort Worth and went up against some of the best soccer teams around.
The Chargers finished with a 1-3 mark and are off until Thursday when they play in another tournament, this time a little closer to home in Dripping Springs.
In their opener on Thursday, Champion was shut out by Southlake Carroll, 5-0.
Taylor Wieland and Audrey Riordan were both in goal for the Chargers.
In their second match, Champion tangled with Harvard-Westlake out of California and lost 4-2. The teams were knotted at 1-1 at the break, but the Chargers were outscored in the second half, 3-1.
Ashlyn Fulgham and Layne Bolli both score one goal, while Mary Claire Stoelzing and Reese Burkey tallied one assist apiece.
Taylor Wieland was in goal all 80 minutes and came up with 12 saves.
Later on Friday, Champion suffered its second shutout of the tourney after they were defeated by Lubbock Monterey, 1-0.

The Lady Chargers closed out the tournament with a 4-0 win over Addison Trinity Christian on Saturday.
Kaitlin Moore, Braxten Barkley, Elle Shrader and Katie Drawdy netted one goal apiece, while Mary Claire Stoelzing recorded 3 assists and Riley Burkey added 1 assist.
Brinn Hammond and Audrey Riordan were both in goal 40 minutes and combined for the shutout after Hammond had 3 saves and Riordan came up with 1 save in the match.
