Geneva speech and debate teams make mark in local and national tournaments

    Geneva School of Boerne Public Forum debaters Phillip Ackermann, Luke Hardin, Jose Balli and Gabe Ross display the hardware they earned at the Earl Warren High School Speech and Debate Tournament recently.

Geneva School of Boerne freshman Mia Wilson made it to the finals in Dramatic Interpretation and placed sixth at the Earl Warren High School Speech and Debate Tournament in San Antonio recently.

Senior Luke Hardin was named Best Speaker in Public Forum and he and his senior teammate Phillip Ackermann placed fifth in the Public Forum event. Junior classmen Gabe Ross and Jose Ballí placed third in Public Forum in this tournament as well.

Junior Alex Iyer competed in the 2019 Yale University Speech and Debate Invitational Tournament recently and reached the quarterfinals (top 30 in the nation) in Dramatic Interpretation and the semifinals (top 14 in the nation) in Original Oratory.

In addition, the debate team of Ackermann and Hardin placed third in Public Forum Debate in the LaVernia tournament in mid-September.

The teams will compete in a tournament at MacArthur High School in San Antonio this weekend.

Ackermann and Hardin also won the Public Forum event at the MacArthur High School Debate Tournament in San Antonio Three other Geneva debate teams had winning records in the Public Forum event: Ballí/ Ross, Trevor Scott/Maggie Carraway and Zach Brunsvold/ Garrett Fritcher.
