Two individuals have declared their intent to file for political office in Fair Oaks Ranch on the first allowable day.
The first date to declare candidacy for the May 1 municipal election is Wednesday, January 13.
Councilman Greg Maxton announced he has filed paperwork to run for mayor of the city, triggering his automatic resignation from his Place 6 seat.
Current Mayor Garry Manitzas has served two terms, and the city’s charter states a mayor only can serve two full three-year terms.
“We have worked diligently with a good council, an excellent city staff and outstanding consultants and resident volunteers to manage growth responsibly and protect our quality of life,” Manitzas said.
In addition, trial attorney Emily Stroup announced she will seek the Place 1 position on the FOR council. That position currently is occupied by MaryAnne Havard.
According to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office, the deadline to declare candidacy and file paperwork is Friday, February 12.
