A fire broke out and claimed a home in the 300 block of Los Indios Ranch Road on Tuesday evening.
The call came in to Kendall County Fire Protection at about 6:25 p.m., and county Fire Marshal Jeff Fincke said a unit from Bergheim was the first to respond.
“The fire appears to have started on the panel box on the outside wall,” Fincke said.
He said the house appeared to have wiring installed in the 1950s and no quality insulation. No foul play is expected.
Fincke said Bergheim firefighters called for help from Boerne, Sisterdale and Leon Springs units because they needed additional water tenders since there were no accessible hydrants. He said crews were on the scene for several hours trying to contain the blaze, and a crew had to go back to the house at about 11:30 p.m. for a minor flareup in the attic. He said firefighters knocked the second fire out “pretty quick.”
The house and a semi-attached storage building-type structure were a total loss. Members of the family were home at the time, but everyone escaped with no injuries.
