LAKEWAY — Kodi Sawin recently submitted her Declaration of Intent to run as an independent for state representative in Texas House District 19.
Sawin said she intends to use her candidacy to provide an independent, local voice and alternative to current partisan politics, adding she aims to make politics about local issues that are a priority to the communities she hopes to serve, not issues generated to motivate a political party’s primary voters.
Sawin said her top issues are property taxes, water quality and quantity, land use and issues important to local businesses. She also said her experience tackling state initiatives and crafting public policy has resulted in the development of key infrastructure projects in Texas, adding the projects she executes are technically complex, spread over large geographic areas and come with the challenge of competing demographics.
