Brett Eugene Hensley

October 4, 1954 – June 15, 2021

Brett Eugene Hensley went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, surrounded by family and friends. Brett enjoyed life to the fullest to the very end and passed at one of his favorite places to be … while camping at Garner State Park. He was 66 years young.

Brett was born in San Antonio, Texas, on October 4, 1954, to Bob Eugene Hensley and Iva Mae “Bunny” (DeBerry). He graduated in 1972 from Highlands High School in San Antonio. After his high school graduation, Brett served in the Army for six years. Brett was employed for 28 years as the cemetery superintendent of Mission Parks Funeral Chapels and Cemeteries. After retiring, he returned to work as a school bus driver for Boerne ISD for three years doing a job he loved and enjoyed. He loved being “Mr. Brett” to all the students on Bus 96.

Brett served on the board of directors for seven years at Boerne Turn Verein and was the tournament manager for the Texas Ten Pin tournament in 2008.

Another love in Brett’s life was his Harley Davidson motorcycle that had its own room at his house. Brett loved going to bike rallies and taking long motorcycle rides with his wife. He was an avid bowler, spending many evenings and weekends bowling on leagues and traveling for tournaments. He enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his wife and family including camping in a tent, ziplining in Belize, parasailing in Puerto Vallarta, visiting Niagara Falls and taking a cruise ship from California to Hawaii.

Brett had a wonderful sense of adventure and loved to do anything for an adrenaline rush. He had a lovable, yet gruff personality. He was never one to mince words and everyone knew exactly where they stood with him. Brett never knew a stranger. Like his mother, spending a few minutes with him and he would know your life story!

Our world is a bit sadder and the sun shines a little less bright with his loss. Brett was one of a kind!

Brett is survived by Melody Hensley, the love of his life and wife of 18 years; his four children, Heather (Tim) Williams of Leander, Texas, Virginia Triesch of Canyon Lake, Texas, Abby (Andrew) Harris of Boerne, Texas, and Robin Wells of Boerne, Texas;  his 10 grandchildren, Gage Williams and Emma Williams of Leander, Texas, Nathan Spencer of Bandera, Texas, Damian Simpson of San Antonio, Texas, Aleena Murphy, Owen Wade, Joseph Wade, Cody Jack Johnson and Shelby Wells all of Boerne, Texas, and Travis Triesch of Pipe Creek, Texas; and many friends. Brett was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Bunny Hensley.
