Christine Jewel Damerau Chapa


Christine “Chris” Jewel Damerau Chapa, 75, of Boerne, Texas, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, May 30, 2021. 

She is preceded in death by her mother, Georgia Virginia (Alexander) Hagen-Damerau; her father, Reno William Damerau Sr.; her sister, Opal Barnet; and brothers Harry Rudolph Hagen and Lonnie Ray Damerau. She was born on Dec. 16, 1945, in Falfurrias, Texas.

Chris graduated from Southwest High School in San Antonio and attended Del Mar Community College in Corpus Christi from 1975-76. 

She married Charley Chapa on April 11, 1969, and they lived in Corpus Christi, Texas, for 16 years, and San Antonio and Boerne, Texas, for 35 years. 

Chris is survived by her husband, Charley; her brother, Reno William Damerau Jr. and Thresol (Hagen) Traw; and two children, Charlie Wesley Chapa of New Braunfels, Texas, and Ginger Lea (Chapa) Yockey of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Victoria, Thomas and Christian of Stavanger, Norway, and Neil and Liam of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas.

Chris was an avid golfer, often playing courses with her husband around the Texas Hill Country. Chris loved decorating the house for Christmas celebrations and was very artistic and thoughtful. Chris loved to travel and visited Norway many times and the Caribbean. Chris also retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where she worked for 21 years. 

A viewing ceremony will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at Cibolo Creek Community Church, Boerne, Texas, followed by a remembrance ceremony at 11 a.m. at the same church.
