SMSgt. Jose R. Gutierrez, USAF (Ret.), 91, passed away on May 14, 2022. He was born March 11, 1931, in Wetmore, Texas, the son of the late Francisco and Mercedez Gutierrez.
Jose proudly served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam and Korean wars. He retired after 26 years of dedicated service and was awarded numerous military honors, with his highest achievement being the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anunciacion “Arlene;” daughters Annie Mae Wright, Debbie Flores (Daniel), Brenda Gutierrez (Desiree), Liza Dokken (Chris) and Fe Bryan (Mark); sons Roland Gutierrez (Eskarlet) and Michael Gutierrez; his brothers, Richard and George (Espevia); sisters Virginia and Helen Campos (Phillip); 10 grandchildren; and three great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stella “Blanche” Thompson.
He was incredibly loved, one of a kind and will be sorely missed.
Visitation and Rosary will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Mission Park Funeral Chapel North, 3401 Cherry Ridge, San Antonio, TX 78230. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, May 27, at St. Peters the Apostle Catholic Church, 202 W. Kronkosky St., Boerne TX 78006.
